MRC-TRAIN
The national MRC website (medicalreservecorps.gov) has a vast number of excellent online courses regarding almost any topic in disaster preparedness and public health. You must first register (free) for a TRAIN Learning Management System Account.
CLASSROOM EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
At our SMCMRC general meetings, we plan to have didactic presentations on various topics that will relate to emergency or disaster preparedness or issues. Topics will include triage procedures (S.T.A.R.T. Program), earthquakes, tsunamis, infectious diseases, establishing PODs, mental health problems, CPR, etc)
DISASTER & EMERGENCY FIELD EXERCISES
Each year, we will be asked to particiapte in disaster or emergency preparedness exercises. These may be conducted by one of the local County Emergency Services units or by one of the other MRC units. This will be voluntary but will be a good chance to participate in a large scale simulation.
REGIONAL & NATIONAL MRC SEMINARS
National and regional seminars are usually held once a year but occassionally there are special or joint seminars that cover many topics relating to disaster preparedness.
ICS-100 & ICS 700 (NIMS) TRAINING- This training is free and can be done online. These 2 courses are REQUIRED in order for us to continue to receive grants to support our MRC unit.
Please keep a list of the courses you take and complete- We may be asking for this information sometime in the future and annually for our records.

- Mass casualities - burns, explosions, injuries
- Radiation emergencies - acute radiation, dirty bombs, nuclear blasts

These courses and training sites offer self study and home study courses at no charge or at a very nominal fee and offer a certificate of completion and, in most cases, offer continuing education credit.
CERT TRAINING - Required for all SMCMRC members. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
CPR & EMERGENCY CARDIOVASCULAR CARE TRAINING All volunteers are urged to stay current with knowledge and skills in basic CPR. These techniques have been recently modified to make them more effective and easier to perform These courses are available through the Red Cross and Heart Association.
