SAN MATEO COASTSIDE MRC APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Take the 2 online courses:
ICS-100: Incident Command System
ICS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS)
These courses describe the structure used by all governemt agencies for emergency and disaster response. The courses are relatively easy, free, and can be found at either of the following websites.

After completing the courses, print out the Certificate of Completion.
2. Go to the Disaster Healthcare Volunteers of California website (healthcarevolunteers.ca.gov) and register. Please include your contact information and training. It is not necessary to complete the medical history. This website is used by the SMC MRC and other state and county agencies to contact you during an emergency and notifies you about where to report and other information. This website also does a basic background check and daily status checks of all professional licenses. Registering only takes 5-10 minutes. Be sure that you are affiliated with the San Mateo Coastside MRC.

A meeting will be arranged and you will need to bring:
- The Certificate of Completion for the ICS-100 & ICS-700 online course
- A valid government Photo ID (Driver's License or Passport)
- The original or a copy of any Professional Licenses

4. It is now required that all members have a CERT-training certificate or complete a CERT training class within 1 year of membership. Classes are offered by all of the fire departments in the Bay Area and schedules are listed on their websites..
After the information has been reviewed and approved, you will receive a DSW ID badge, SMC MRC vest, shirt and cap. At a later date, you will also be sworn in as a Disaster Service Worker.

Confidentiality of Personal Information
The application forms ask for some specific personal information. This information will not be shared with anyone outside this organization except for those public service organizations (i.e. the fire department) who have a need to know. Even then, only the essential information they need to know will be transmitted. The Disaster Service Application will be filed, if requested, with the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services and will be considered a confidential document by them. The California Medical Volunteers database also provides strict confidentiality measures. |
